Rosalia Challenge
InterContinental Barcelona maintains a strong commitment with the environment and society. Sustainability is part of the hotel's daily agenda, which, through its actions, encourages its visitors to contribute positively to their surroundings. To this end, it has a sustainability coordinator, whose main mission is to implement actions that address current issues, such as the drought currently affecting Catalonia and the city of Barcelona.
An example of this is the initiative created to raise awareness among guests about responsible water consumption, actively highlighted by the local press since its launch. Specifically, the hotel provides guests with a QR code next to their shower, accompanied by a challenge: to shower in less than the 3.14 minutes it takes to listen to the song "Beso" by Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro. By scanning the code with their devices, guests can participate in the challenge.
Alongside the QR code, guests will also find information about the water consumption associated with routine actions such as washing hands, brushing teeth, or filling a bathtub, encouraging them to make rational use of resources. An original, practical, and easy way to make them aware of their impact on the environment.
In addition to this initiative, InterContinental participates in socially responsible corporate programs to preserve the environment and invest in society. Therefore, the hotel has been awarded the BIOSPHERE© certification by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), updated in 2024, which guarantees compliance with all international sustainability requirements. Furthermore, InterContinental Barcelona has been recognized in the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism Awards 2022, promoted by Barcelona Turisme, which aim to highlight the effort and dedication in the various sustainability areas carried out by companies in the tourism sector.
